Play area tree planting

Sunday 28 December 2008
The tree planting went ahead with a beautiful, though cold, winter’s day on Sunday 28 December. Over 60 people including 26 children came along and all the 145 trees were planted in record time. Children tied long-life labels onto their trees so that they can monitor the growth over the years.
Thank you very much for supporting this event so enthusiastically and for all the Christmas nibbles you brought along. Special thanks also to Sir Cameron for making all this possible by his generosity in making the land available to the Parish Council for a play area. Thank you also to George England for keeping the braziers burning giving much needed warmth and to Sue and Mike Parroy for gallantly keeping us all going with seemingly endless supplies of mulled wine, hot punch and hot nibbles.
A new gate off Barrow Lane will be installed shortly and the grass rolled and cut through next year. Many thanks to Peter Rochford, of Rochford Garden Machinery, for supplying us with a mower at cost.
We are hoping to organize a rounders match in the summer or does anyone have any other ideas? Please ring Sally Amery 31330.
