- In common with many other parishes in Somerset, our Parish Council – together with the South Somerset District Council – is supporting the development of a Parish Plan for Charlton Musgrove. This is an important project as it will allow the whole village to have a direct influence on the life of the village and on its development.
In future, to receive support from the District and County Councils, or from other public organisations, it will be necessary to demonstrate that there is an appropriate level of village backing for particular plans and initiatives.
A case in point is the campaign to secure funding for the refurbishment of the Village Hall. Without a Parish Plan – and the level of public consultation that this entails – it is unlikely that we would receive Council grants/support for this and other projects that the village may like to see happen. The objective of the Parish Plan will be to identify the needs, aspirations and concerns of the residents of Charlton Musgrove in areas such as transport, the environment, support for local businesses, recreation, health and welfare services and housing. This list is not exhaustive; the Plan can consider all aspects of local life and will have approximately a 10 year view.
There is no intention to duplicate the important work of the Parish and District Councils, particularly with respect to planning. However, the Parish Plan will provide important information about the community which will help to influence the policies, decisions and actions of the Councils and other agencies.
How it works…
The Plan will be developed over several phases during approximately the next 6-9 months.
Lunch launching the consultation process – March 2008
Carrying out a survey of the views of all members of the village. It is important that this survey is as comprehensive as possible in terms of the number of people and the sections of the community that we reach; young and old; those working, or bringing up families, and the retired.
Analysing the results of the survey and preparing the first draft of the Plan
Further consultation – another lunch or more formal village meeting to discuss the draft Plan
Preparation and publication of the final Plan
Implementing the actions identified in the PlanWho’s involved…
The Parish Plan is a village project, managed entirely by members of the village. The Steering Group comprises: Johnny Bingham (Chairman), Brenden Adams (Secretary), Sally Amery (Treasurer), Tom Kimber, Sue Parroy, Claude Teague and Veronica White.
