Following the public meeting called by the Parish Council on 14th October, a petition asking villagers if they would like to SAVE THE PUB and object to it being granted change of use and turned into a domestic dwelling was initiated at the Parish Plan public consultation on 4th November.
150 people have signed the petition and this has been taken to SSDC Council offices in Brympton Way along with the attached letter.
The Steering Committee have started work on producing the final plan which we hope will be published in the spring time.
Following the Smithy pub’s owners decision to apply for change of use to a domestic dwelling the Parish Plan Steering Committee have written the attached letter to the Council enclosing the comments made at our public consultation and the full report endorsed by the Parish Council. The petition to SAVE THE PUB will be taken to SSDC prior to the last date for submissions.
A public meeting was called by the Parish Council on 14th October regarding the proposal by the owners of The Smithy to apply for change of use to a domestic dwelling. Following this, an interim report regarding the pub was prepared by the Steering Committee for the Parish Plan and this report will form part of the final Parish Plan. It was endorsed by the Parish Council at their meeting on 9th November – see minutes note no 77 and forwarded to SSDC. The report is attached.Pub Report

Following sterling work by Kevin Flint the analysis and reporting of the questionnaire results is now complete. The Steering Committee are meeting shortly to go through the results and in due course we will hold a further public consultation. This will be an opportunity for everyone to look at the feedback and help us pull out key points and possible actions prior to producing the Parish Plan.
Thank you again to everyone who took part and for all the very useful and positive comments about life in Charlton Musgrove!

Many thanks to all who took part and returned them – we had a response rate of 72%, which is well above the average. A database has been set up and the results are being analysed and in due course, a Parish Plan will be produce.

January 2011
Some time ago our Parish Council endorsed the preparation of a Parish Plan and in response to this a Steering Committee was formed by a group of volunteers to carry this out. Two public consultations and several surveys have since taken place to try and identify the issues which were of concern or of interest to the village. The results of these have enabled us to draw together a list of questions to help identify the villagers’ future needs and wishes.
The Parish Plan questionnaire has been circulated to everyone in the village and we would like to encourage everyone to complete this which will help us to produce an accurate plan for the village. If you need extra copies of the questionnaire a PDF copy is attached for downloading and this should be returned along with the questionnaire sent to you by post in the reply paid envelope.
The decision to carry out a Parish Plan has already been very helpful to the village hall committee to access funding for the new hall through Somerset County Council and South Somerset District Council. The project was awarded the maximum Capital grant of £70,000 and a further £9,000 in smaller awards. This in turn helped access grants from other funders. Effective changes have also already successfully been made by the Parish Council to reduce traffic speeds at certain risk points around the village identified as a result of the consultations.
Further details are given for completion and return of the questionnaire on page 2. We look forward to receiving your views but please contact any member of the Steering Committee by ‘phone or e-mail if you would like to discuss this further.
